<h4>The Filing System</h4>
<p>The subconscious mind can be understood as the non-reasoning mind. Rather than using reasoning power as the <a href="http://www.radiantenergy.ca/blog/2009/10/conscious-mind/" target="_blank">conscious mind</a> does, the subconscious mind<a href="http://www.radiantenergy.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/20091015-files.png"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-536" title="20091015-files" src="http://www.radiantenergy.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/20091015-files.png" alt="20091015-files" width="127" height="160" /></a> operates at a more basic, instinctive level and also serves as the memory bank that files every thought, feeling, memory, habit pattern, desire and instinct that we posses. Since it works 24 hours a day, storing all that we think and feel, it is a very powerful source of either &#8216;positive&#8217; or &#8216;negative&#8217; usage, depending on what we have filed in it. Sometimes when we think we&#8217;re using our intuition, we&#8217;re actually accessing information already stored in our subconscious mind that we acquired in a previous experience, but intuition actually comes from other sources, one of which is the <a href="http://www.radiantenergy.ca/blog/2009/10/superconscious-mind/" target="_blank">superconscious mind</a>.</p>
<p>Beginning at our infancy, we have been programmed by our parents, grandparents, peers, teachers and the media. All of these exchanges of information have been stored in our subconscious minds. Little children are all in a sense victims&#8230;meaning that their reasoning minds have not developed enough to be able to discriminate and protect them from negative programming. As small children, we were totally open. As a result, our subconscious minds may be filled with mental poisons, faulty thinking and damaging beliefs. Just as the body can be filled with physical toxins from poor eating, the subconscious mind can be filled with mental toxins from both improper programming and education.</p>
<p>The subconscious mind functions according to the Law of Attraction in that it will draw toward it all that resonates at the same level of vibration. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of what their subconscious mind is actually doing. These people are asleep. Most people&#8230;are sleep. By using our subconscious mind as a tool of manifestation in our lives, we are in alignment with the saying &#8220;As within, so without&#8221; or &#8220;As above, so below&#8221;. That is, what we think and imagine in our subconscious mind will manifest its mirror likeness in our external circumstances and experiences. We must remember, our outer world is simply a reflection of our inner world, for better or worse, because the subconscious mind does whatever it is programmed to do.</p>
<p>The subconscious mind is an amazing paradox. It has no powers of reason on its own, yet it has an incredible number of abilities and intelligence factors. A great illustration for understanding this is the computer analogy. A computer is an astonishing piece of equipment, capable of performing millions of computations per second, yet it doesn&#8217;t care whether it is programmed to solve the problem of world hunger or to create a nuclear war. It has the capability to do either job efficiently, but it doesn&#8217;t have the reasoning power not to want to create nuclear war. It is this difference between intelligence and reason that we are primarily concerned with. The subconscious mind does whatever it is programmed to do, no matter what! Therefore, is it possible to SEE why our subconscious mind is SO important??!</p>
<p><strong>To manifest effectively, we must learn to be in control of what is fed into our mind at all times.</strong> Many times, the subconscious mind runs us instead of the other way around. Ideally, the subconscious is our servant and will supply us with whatever we need as long as we program it correctly.</p>
<h4>Mind and Body</h4>
<p>The subconscious mind completely operates the physical body. Hypnosis offers some insight into how this works; for example, some post-hypnotic therapy suggestions are being used to control a person&#8217;s physiological craving for nicotine and to help change their internal programming for craving cigarettes. Unfortunately, our subconscious mind is as happy damaging the body with harmful toxins as it is creating good health with the proper foods and nutrients. The subconscious mind has the intelligence to create perfect health or create cancer, but it will create whatever it has been programmed to do, there again depending on what we feed it. Certainly no one consciously programs himself to develop cancer, but many people unconsciously program disease into their bodies through self-hatred, victim consciousness, revenge, giving up, or holding on to pain and feelings of unforgiveness. The key, then, is to constantly program the subconscious mind for perfect, radiant health through good thoughts and intentions.</p>
<h4>Mindful Dreams</h4>
<p>The subconscious mind also helps to create our dreams every night. There are occasions when the superconscious mind creates dreams; however, most<a href="http://www.radiantenergy.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/20091015-dream.png"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-544" title="20091015-dream" src="http://www.radiantenergy.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/20091015-dream.png" alt="20091015-dream" width="138" height="104" /></a> dreams originate in the subconscious. A dream is basically a mirror of the way we think, feel and act during our consicous daily life. A dream is like a newspaper we receive every day, depicting the organization and dynamics of our internal energies. Dreams are in the unviersal language of symbols. To understand our dreams, we must first accept that every part of every dream is, in reality, a part of us. By examining the relationship among the symbols, we can gain insight into ourselves and understand how our thought patterns are manifesting themselves in our lives through our actions. It is very beneficial to have a dream journal to record the many messages and stories being told to us through our subconscious minds.</p>
<h4>Mind Over Matter</h4>
<p>The subconscious mind can also be termed as our &#8216;habit&#8217; mind, for it stores all of our habits, both the ones we like as well as the ones were fighting to get rid of! A lot of people think habits are bad, but this is not necessarily true. Generally we want to get rid of our bad habits, however ideally we should be creating good habits insead! It is much more productive to work at creating new positive habits than it is to focus our energies on our negative ones. There again, via Spirituality Class 101, what we focus on, grows and persists! Therefore, let&#8217;s focus our light and love and energies on creating new, positive, loving statements of who we are!</p>
<h4>Mind as Memory</h4>
<p>If you and I did not have a subconscious mind to store our developed abilities, every activity that we chose to perform would always take great amounts of focus and concentration. The subconscious mind&#8217;s ability to store personal abilities allows us to grow continually and develop new abilities without worrying about managing old ones. For example, remember the time you learned how to drive a car? For many of us, it was in the high school parking lot with our friends, working SO hard at coordinating our senses. Our reputations were at stake as our friends were watching us with eagle eyes, hoping in a way that we could not do it. However, after many attempts, we became conformable drivers. This is an example of how we can learn a procedure and that knowledge is then stored in our subconscious mind.</p>
<p>When we first learn how to do something, it may take a lot of conscious effort and willpower to master. However, after we learn how to deal with the situation, little conscious thought or effort is required after that point. If we didn&#8217;t have a subconscious mind to store our developed abilities, every activity would always take great focus and concentration. The subconscious mind&#8217;s ability to store habits allows us to grow continually and develop new abilities without worrying about old ones. We can learn something in a day, but there is a basic psychological or metaphysical law that states that it takes <strong>21 days to cement a new habit</strong> into the subconscious mind.</p>
<h4>Laws and Abilities of the Mind</h4>
<p>The subconscious mind is where the Law of Magnetism and the Law of Attraction operate as well. The subconscious mind continually attracts and repels things according to what has been programmed into it. A Master is someone who uses these laws to his own conscious benefit. Let&#8217;s take the example of money and prosperity. If we have the subconscious belief that we will never have money, we won&#8217;t!! If, on the other hand, we think that we will, the subconscious mind will attract those opportunities and possibilities to us. Whatever we want in life, we have to affirm or visualize this into the subconscious mind, and the subconscious mind will attract it to us!! It must be strssed here that the power of affirmations &#8211; when we focus our energies and thoughts and repeatedly declare what and who we are &#8211; we are making incredible advances in our evolutionary process.</p>
<p>The subconscious mind is also the seat of our psychic abilities. The subconscious has five inner senses that are the subtler counterparts of our five external senses: inner sight (clairvoyance), inner hearing (clairaudience), inner smell, inner taste and inner touch. Have you ever noticed what when you dream your senses are available to you? How can this be if you are sleeping? This is because you are utilizing your five inner senses of the subconscious mind. All people have psychic abilities and can develop them further. It is just a matter of practice and proper training, as with any external ability.</p>
<h4>Remember&#8230;</h4>
<p>The subconscious mind was never meant to direct our life. It will run us into oblivion if we let it, not because it is bad, but because it has no reasoning powers. For example, our car has a number of computer systems that help to run it more efficiently. However, just because these computer chips can perform these many functions, that doesn&#8217;t mean they are capable of diving our cars. In and of itself, the subconscious mind is divine; however why would anyone let a non-reasoing mind run his or her life? Strangely enough though, this is what most people do.</p>

<p>It is of vital importance to observe our minds (thoughts AND emotions) in order to begin to live more consciously and fully in the Now. Self-observation and introspection enable us to evolve into more loving, peaceful beings. In order to remember who we are, we must look at ourselves under a microscope and <span style="text-decoration: underline;">honestly accept</span> what we see, observing where our thoughts are and how we deal with our emotions. It is only through this conscious self-introspection that we can view ourselves as the &#8216;witnessing presence&#8217; which is the &#8216;watcher of the thinker&#8217;. This is the point of perception where our Higher Selves continually observe the activities going on both in our thoughts and our emotions. Whether we consciously know we are doing this or not, it is happening constantly. <strong>It is very important to remember to view ourselves with loving, non-judging eyes</strong>, because if we find fault with ourselves or feel guilty about the chatter going on in our heads, then we are simply continuing on in the duality thinking and will not be able to make the necessary changes within ourselves.</p>
<p>So, before we go on, we need to discuss briefly how we can change these ingrained patters of rampant thoughts and emotions and learn to understand our minds and how they work. The first step is that we must understand the basic mechanics of living UNconsciously, which is when we define who we are through our thoughts and emotions, allowing the mind to control our lives, thus creating a false self or ego as a substitute for our true self. When this occurs, we become as a &#8216;branch cut off from the vine&#8217; where the ego&#8217;s needs are endless and keep us living in a state of constant fear and want. When we truly begin to grasp how this dysfunction operates, we can then begin to detach from this ego or illusory sense of self and learn to disconnect from the many fears, problems and traumas in our lives that seem to define who we are. It isn&#8217;t until we recognize where our minds are that we can begin to make changes within ourselves and learn to live more consciously. Our minds generally want to escape the Now by thinking that either the past or the future will be better than the present&#8230;if the imagined future appears better, it gives us hope and anticipation&#8230;if it is imagined worse, it creates more anxiety and fear.</p>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">BOTH ARE ILLUSIONS!!!</h4>
<p>By living more consciously, a higher dimension of presence comes into our lives automatically. <strong>The moment we realize that we are not present, we ARE present!</strong> Whenever we are able to observe our minds, we are no longer trapped in them! It is that simple&#8230;it just takes awareness!!! Awareness takes effort at first, but with trust, perseverance and determination, living consciously the majority of the time is truly possible.</p>
<p>The following are simple reminders:</p>

<p>All of these reminders help us to live more consciously in the Now and enable us to step out of past and future fears and introduce more presence into our lives. Once we can feel what it means to truly be present, it becomes much easier to simply choose to step out of the time dimension whenever it is needed for practical purposes and move more deeply into the Now.</p>
<p>This leads us into the discussion of how we can change our attitudes and perspectives on what is &#8216;time&#8217; and what role it plays in our ability to stay conscious and present as much as possible.</p>
<p>The following statement is the key:</p>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">Time and mind are inseparable!</h4>
<p>To be identified with your mind is to be trapped in time&#8230;the compulsion to live almost exclusively through memory and anticipation. This creates an endless preoccupation with past and future and an unwillingness to honor and acknowledge the present moment and simply allow it to be. The compulsion arises because the past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation and fulfillment. BOTH ARE ILLUSIONS!!! Thus, it is important to end the delusion of time!</p>
<p>Many people say, &#8220;Time is something so very precious&#8221;, but time isn&#8217;t precious at all because it is an illusion. What we perceived as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the NOW&#8230;that is precious indeed! The more we are focused on time (past and future), the more we miss the Now, the most precious thing there is. Why is it the most precious thing? Because it is the ONLY thing&#8230;it&#8217;s all there is. The eternal present is the space within which our whole life unfolds, the one factor that remains constant. Life is NOW&#8230;there was never a time when our life was NOT now, now will there ever be.</p>
<p>Often times, we think the past and future are even more real than the present since the past determines who we are and how we behave in the present, and future goals determine what actions we take in the present. This is very challenging for us to undersatnd because we are using our &#8216;minds&#8217; to try to grasp this; however, ask yourselves the following questions: <em>Have you ever experienced, done, thought or felt anything outside of the Now? Do you think you ever will? Is it possible for anything to happen or be out the Now?</em> Of course not! Nothing ever happened in the past&#8230;it happened in the NOW! Nothing will ever happen in the future&#8230;it will happen in the Now.</p>
<p>What we think of as the past is a memory trace, stored in the mind, of a former Now. When we remember the past, we reactivate a memory trace of an event. Also, the future is an imaged Now, a projection of the mind. When the future comes, it comes as the Now. When we think about the future, we do it now. Past and future obviously have no reality of their own&#8230;just as the moon has no light of its own but can only reflect the light of the sun&#8230;so are past and future only pale reflections of the light, power and reality of the eternal present. The essence of this is difficult to be understood by the mind; however, once we grasp it, there is a shift in consciousness from mind to Being, from time to presence. Suddenly everything feels alive, radiates energy and emanates Being.</p>
<p>If you have ever been in a life threatening or emergency situation, you are aware that there is a shift in consciousness from &#8216;time&#8217; to &#8216;presence&#8217; that happens immediately and naturally. The personality that has a past and a future momentarily recedes and is replaced by an intense conscious presence, that of being very still but very alert at the same time. Whatever response is needed then arises out of that state of consciousness.</p>
<p>Similarly, many people love to engage in dangerous activities such as mountain climbing or car racing because it keeps them in the constant state of Now, that intensely alive state that is free of time, free of problems, free of thinking. Slipping away from the present moment even for a second for them may mean death, so the totally conscious state that is required is exhilaration! That energy is powerful and this desired state is available to all of us, without having to climb to the top of El Capitan! We simply have to BE present!</p>
<p>Since ancient times, spiritual masters of all traditions have pointed to the Now as the key to the spiritual dimension. In church you may have heard the saying, &#8220;Nobody who puts his hands to the plow and looks back is fit for the Kingdom of God.&#8221; Also, the whole essence of Zen consists of walking along the razor&#8217;s edge of Now, to be so utterly, so completely present that no problem, no suffering, nothing that is not WHO YOU ARE in your essence can survive in you. A similar question in the Zen tradition is, &#8220;If not now, when?&#8221; Finally, Rumi, the great Sufi poet and teacher declared &#8220;Past and future veil God from our sight; burn up both of them in fire.&#8221; We have all been exposed to many, many lessons and teachings that have stressed the importance of living the present moment, but how many of us truly are able to live and apply this awareness into our lives on a daily basis? We must be honest with ourselves&#8230;do we live and accept ourselves in the present NOW or do we depend on our past experiences or our future dreams to mold our present days?</p>
<h2>Clock Time Vs. Psychological Time&#8230;</h2>
<p>Just as there is a place for mind and mind knowledge in the practical realm of day-to-day living, we also need to know how to use time in the practical aspects of our lives. Keeping track of time for daily appointments and activities is of course important, but we must be wary when it takes over all aspects of our lives. There are two types of &#8216;time&#8217; that we must be aware of: &#8216;clock time&#8217; and &#8216;psychological time&#8217;. The enlightened person&#8217;s main focus of attention is always the Now, but they are still peripherally aware of time, which means they continue to use clock time but are <strong>free of psychological time</strong>.</p>
<p>Clock time is used for the practical aspects of our lives. Clock time is not just making an appointment or planning a trip. It includes learning from the past so that we don&#8217;t repeat the same mistakes over and over. Knowledge that we have attained through past experiences is also using &#8216;clock time&#8217;. It is thus when we are able to make choices, based on learning from prior experiences. Similarly, when we set a goal for ourselves and work toward it, we are using clock time. We are aware of where we want to go, but we honor and give our fullest attention to the step that we are taking at this moment. However, if we become excessively focused on the goal, perhaps because we are seeking happiness or fulfillment in it, the Now is no longer honored and it becomes reduced to a mere stepping stone to the future. Then we are no longer using clock time. THE PRESENT MOMENT REMAINS THE ESSENTIAL FACTOR: when any lesson from the past becomes relevant and the knowledge of the experience is applied to the Now, &#8216;clock time&#8217; is being honored.</p>
<p><strong>&#8216;Psychological time&#8217; is identification with the past and continuous compulsive projection into the future.</strong> It is when we lose all touch with the present moment, and when our identity, value and purpose is only based on what we have done or what we will be doing later, what we look like or what we are thinking or feeling. If life&#8217;s journey is no longer an adventure or seen as beautiful but is an obsessive need to arrive, to attain or to &#8216;make it&#8217;, then psychological time or past and future identification rules who you are.</p>
<p>Be alert as you practice this so that you do not unwittingly transform clock time into psychological time. For example, if you made a mistake in the past and learn from it now, you are using clock time. On the other hand, if you dwell on it mentally, and self-criticism, remorse, or guilt come up, then you are making the mistake into &#8216;me&#8217; and &#8216;mine&#8217;: you make it part of your sense of self, and it has become psychological time, which is always linked to a false sense of identity. Nonforgiveness necessarily implies a heavy burden of psychological time.</p>
<p>You will not have any doubt that psychological time is a mental disease if you look at its collective consciousness manifestations. They occur, for example, in the form of ideologies such as communism or rigid religious belief systems which operate under the implicit assumption that the highest good lies in the future and that therefore the end justifies the means. The end is an idea, a point in the mind-projected future, when salvation in whatever form (happiness, fulfillment, equality, etc.) will be attained. As an example, it is estimated that as many as 50 million people were murdered to further the cause of communism, to bring about a &#8216;better world&#8217; in Russia, China and other countries. This is a chilling example of how belief in a future heaven creates a present hell. Can there be any doubt that psychological time is a serious and dangerous mental illness?</p>
<p>How does this mind pattern operate in your life? Are you always trying to get somewhere other than where you are? Is most of your &#8216;doing&#8217; just a means to an end? Is fulfillment always just around the corner or confined to short-lived pleasures such as drink, drugs, or thrills and excitement? Are you always focused on becoming, achieving, and attaining? Do you believe that if you acquire more things you will become more fulfilled or psychologically complete?</p>
<p>In the normal, mind-identified or unenlightened state of consciousness, the power and creative potential that lies concealed in the Now is completely obscured by psychological time. Your life then loses its vibrancy and sense of wonder. The old patterns of thought, emotion, behavior, reaction and desire are acted out in endless repeat performances, a script in your mind that gives you an identity of sorts but covers up the reality of the Now. The mind then creates an obsession with the future as an escape from the unsatisfactory present.</p>
<p>If you are currently experiencing a very challenging set of experiences that make you believe that the future HAS to be better than this present state, you must realize that the future is generally a replica of the past! Superficial changes are possible of course, but REAL transformation depends upon whether you can become present enough to dissolve the past by accessing and accepting the Now. What you perceive as future is an intrinsic part of your state of consciousness now, and chances are you will experience more of the same unless the quality of you consciousness NOW is altered.</p>
<p>So&#8230;.if it is the quality of your consciousness at this moment that determines the future, then what is it that determines the quality of your consciousness? It is your degree of presence!!! Therefore, the ONLY place where true change can occur and where the past can be dissolved is the NOW!!!</p>

<p>He was tired. Smearing a mosquito across his cheek, he clenched his teeth and narrowed his eyes. The evening fog was becoming dense, eating away at his ripped clothes and seeping into his bones. Twigs cracked under his thick rubber soles as he dragged himself through the labyrinth of the forest. He was told there would be a clearing soon. He was told he would find his answer in the clearing.</p>
<p>Before nightfall, he arrived at an open field. At the far end of the field was a small cabin. There was a torn piece of soggy cardboard propped up on the porch with the words ‘Help Wanted’ scratched into it with thick red marker. Inside the cabin, there was a round pink man sitting behind a desk that seemed too small for his demeanor. His thick spectacles were propped up on the tip of his nose. He folded his newspaper as the screen door to his office creaked open.</p>
<p>“I would like to work for you in exchange for money that I can use to buy food and shelter,” said the traveler as he approached the man behind the desk.</p>
<p>With an almost imperceptible nod, the man agreed to employ the traveler. “Come back tomorrow morning and I will tell you what work you will do for me.” The traveler agreed to return the next day.</p>
<p>In the morning, the man behind the desk gave the traveler an axe. “Your job will be to cut down trees in the forest around my cabin. You will be paid for each tree you cut down.”</p>
<p>The traveler was very excited. He agreed and promised that each day he would cut down more trees then the day before.</p>
<p>At the end of the first day, the traveler cut down 20 trees. He was very proud of himself. On the second day, the traveler worked twice as hard but only cut down 15 trees. He thought that it must have been because he was still getting into the habit of cutting down trees, so he decided not to be too hard on himself and come back the next day fresh and ready to achieve his original goal.</p>
<p>On the third day, the traveler worked harder then he had on the first two days combined but he only ended up cutting down 12 trees. He was feeling discouraged and frustrated. He went to the cabin and approached the man behind the desk. He told his employer about his experience and asked for advice.</p>
<p>The man behind the desk folded his newspaper, peered at the traveler from above the thick red rim of his glasses and asked, “In all this time that you have been working yourself to the bone trying to cut down more trees each day, have you taken the time to sharpen your axe?”</p>
<p>“No. I didn&#8217;t think there was time to waste,” grumbled the traveler.</p>
<p>“There is no time to waste. All we have in the light of the sun and the cool of the breeze are the tools we are given to assist us in our work. Time will not help you cut down a tree. It will not make you stronger, nor will it lift the weight off your shoulders when you are tired. All we have are the tools we are given.”</p>
<p>With that, the man behind the desk unfolded his paper and continued reading.</p>
<p>Reluctantly, the traveler left the cabin and returned to the woods. Before cutting down any more trees, he sharpened his axe. That day, he cut down 23 trees. Each morning, before he began cutting, he checked to make sure his axe was sharp enough for the work he needed it to do, and each day he cut down more trees then the day before.</p>

There are actually two versions of the table in this printable copy &#8211; one includes all the words you see above, and the other is a workable blank copy of the table. As you read each word, take note of the first thought, image, or single word that pops up in your mind. Please do not judge your reaction. Then, write that respond down in the corresponding cell of your blank worksheet. Continue doing this untill all the cells are filled. You can do this by yourself, with a partner or even make it a group activity with your friends. Once everyone has finished, reveal your reactions to one another, but instead of comparing them, allow each person a moment of reflection. Share with one another. Learn from one another.</p>

<h4><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-52" title="20090113 Post" src="http://www.radiantenergy.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/picture-6.png" alt="20090113 Post" width="309" height="108" />What is attachment?</h4>
<p>To be attached to something is to be unable to let go of a belief. To be unable to let go of a belief is to create a limitation for ourselves. A limitation does not allow us to progress. It does not allow us to expand our thoughts, develop our feelings, and essentially, stops our journey of experiencing life. Every time we create an attachment, we take a step back on our journey through life, and every time we return to the &#8216;comfort&#8217; that we have convinced ourselves the attachment brings, we take yet another step back. To experience life, not just to &#8216;know&#8217; of life, but to experience life in this physical dimension, we must choose to continually take steps forward. The difficulty is that each new step is a step on new ground. New ground is unexplored unknown. Growth through experience means taking new steps and placing our feet on new ground, regardless of how afraid we have convinced ourselves to be.</p>
<h4>Why do we have attachments?</h4>
<p>They make us feel artificially safe. We surround ourselves with attachments to create a world where we feel secure, where we see the predictability of what will happen when we turn to our attachment. We convince ourselves that routines are positive things. We are told that routines, or in other words, processes that we continually repeat (or&#8230;PATTERNS!), allow us to limit, or one day &#8216;maybe&#8217; even eliminate the possibility of making a mistake. We are taught practice makes perfect.</p>
<p>So, we attach ourselves to processes that we have dared to try at one point, and after seeing that things worked out, and probably believing that it was luck that made it work out and not us who did it all by ourselves, we continue repeating the process. There is a sense of addiction in the success that we reap from attachments. But before you get too comfortable with this &#8216;success&#8217;, tell me what is wrong with making a mistake in the first place?</p>
<p>A mistake is just as much an experience in life as a success. Who is to say that mistakes aren&#8217;t successful? We are here to experience. We are not here to experience the good, and then go home. We are here to experience the all. Are you not perfect? Are you not whole and complete? Are you not a direct manifestation of all the power that exists? Why are you limiting your experiences out of a sense of artificial fear that you have convinced yourself exists in the unknown? What is the unknown? Who is to say that the unknown is bad? What is bad, and what is good in the first place? You owe it to yourself to do Your ALL in this lifetime. If you choose to hide from that which is not familiar, you have stopped living.</p>
<p>There is a different side of this story as well. Sometimes attachments do not bring &#8216;success&#8217; and pleasure. Sometimes, people grow attached to beliefs that make them miserable. Why would anyone want to be miserable? They may believe that they deserve to be miserable. Attachments that result in suffering are created as a form of self-deprivation, or in other words, as a punishment that we think we deserve.</p>
<p>Why do some people think they deserve to be punished? Because they have stopped loving themselves. They have stopped seeing the beauty and magnificence of the loving being that they are. They have forgotten that the person they are in this life is not a clear and full representation of who they are  and of what they represent. That which they represent is pure love, is pure acceptance &#8211; the two are synonymous, but the attached person has forgotten about this. The attached person believes that they are not worthy of their own love. This is when attachments develop.</p>
<h4>What are we attached to?</h4>
<p>It is easy to say that someone is attached to his mother or her sister. How many people do you know who are attached to money? What seems on the surface as an attachment to an object, to a process, to a physical or intangible thing, is really an attachment to a belief. Beliefs make us feel certain ways. Beliefs create artificial security that motivates an attachment. If you say you are attached to your mother, could it be that you are really attached to the belief that only responsible, good and polite daughters take care of their mothers in old age? Could it be that you have chosen to punish yourself for your successes because your family wasn&#8217;t as strong as you and you failed to help them to change and to be stronger, so instead you started punishing yourself for being the strong and limitless person you are?</p>
<p>Could it be that your attachment is a manifestation of a belief of which you convinced yourself decades ago: that being strong and loving of yourself should be punished, and being weak and refusing to take responsibility for your own life should be praised and rewarded? Could it be true that you don&#8217;t love yourself enough, that you don&#8217;t appreciate the gifts that you chose for yourself to be an independent, free spirit that does not NEED to be attached to any belief? The moment you understand your true potential, the second you begin to love yourself again and to appreciate the radiant spirit that you are, is the instant when you begin to fully experience life again.</p>
<p>I say again because there was a time when you chose not to accept your strengths as weaknesses. There was a beautiful time when you were totally unconditional love and free of judgement. There was a time when you loved yourself enough to know that you could do anything. Go back to the point when you gave up hope and love for yourself. Go back to the painful and wonderful moment when you started punishing yourself and feeling the need to attach. Go back to the person who you are still punishing and free the limiting belief structures that have trapped you for so long. Let that person free and you will feel your lungs fill with fresh air for the first time in years. Release all limits and you will again be able to manifest your dreams into reality.</p>
